What Makes a Brand Memorable Beyond the Logo

Ask most business owners what "branding" means and they'll point at their logo. A logo is one piece of a brand, not the whole thing, and treating it as the whole thing is why a lot of rebrands change nothing about how a business is actually perceived.

Consistency is doing more work than design

A brand that uses three different tones of voice across its website, Instagram, and emails feels like three different companies, even with the same logo on all of them. The businesses people remember are the ones that sound and look the same everywhere, so familiarity builds instead of resetting every time.

People remember how you made them feel, not your color palette

Color and typography set a mood, but the actual memory sticks from an interaction: how a support message was answered, how a product was packaged, whether a website made something easy or frustrating. Visual identity is the frame. Experience is the picture.

A clear point of view beats trying to appeal to everyone

Brands that stand for something specific, a certain kind of client, a certain way of working, get remembered because they're distinct. Brands built to avoid offending anyone tend to blend into the background along with every competitor doing the same thing.

What we actually do

When we take on brand identity work, the visual system, logo, colors, type, comes after we've nailed down tone of voice and what the brand actually stands for. Design applied to an undefined brand just makes an undefined brand look nicer, it doesn't make it memorable.
